Remodelers in the Atlanta market more often than not get requests for traditional styles. However, more people are starting to ask for contemporary remodels.
According to one local builder, "The Atlanta remodeling scene has its fair share of mid-century moderns and even homes that could easily be changed to a contemporary style. These customer homes seem to echo some of the same sentiments to us. These sentiments include: they prefer simple, uncluttered, clean lines, and the functionality of the contemporary style." Often clients indicate to the builder that they find it easier to relax in this type of space.
Many contractors really enjoy working with these types of customers. It gives them a chance to install some really interesting features and create some very unique spaces for unique people.
Review of two trends in Contemporary Home Remodeling:
Fire Glass
One contemporary focal point the local builder has enjoyed doing lately is fireplaces. Often he uses large tiles and solid surface materials like Cesarstone and fire glass covering natural gas burners.
One recent example was a fire place that forgoes the mantle for a clean wall of 32×16″ tile and hearth that is made of Ceasarstone solid quartz surface. Inside they include a pair of H burners that send soot free flames through a mound of sparkling fire glass. Reports from the homeowner tell Buckley that the glass gets nice and hot and radiates warmth throughout the room.
Stainless Steel Wire Railing
Another feature some builders have recently worked a lot with is stainless steel wire railings. These railings are made of tensioned stainless steel wires instead of wood balusters. This gives a home a high tech or modern touch. They are work great on decks, especially by preserving the view.
