George Beurling was the only Canadian FIRED from the Second World War. Have you ever heard of that, someone being fired from a war? How can that be?
At the war's onset Beurling was rejected by the Royal Canadian Air Force's recruiting team twice even though he was an experienced pilot (at that point in time he had been the youngest Canadian to hold a flying licence). Beurling insisted on flying so he worked his way over to England on a frieghter-ship to join the Royal Air Force. He had to do this twice as he had forgotten his birth certificate the first time. A somewhat similar run-around the Canadians had given him. After becoming a fighter 'Ace' with the R.A.F., Canada then wanted him back. England had to oblige it's ally and the Royal Canadian Air Force quickly took Beurling out of the war by sending him back home to sell war bonds. Beuling despised this tactic and was fired two years before the war had ended. George Frederick Beurling rode out the rest of the war flying cargo planes over northern Quebec. Trans Canada Airlines, predecessor of the, now 'Air Canada' refused to hire him for fear of Beurling's well-cried but unjust reputation. He and his brother then started a business in Dorval, Quebec of a type where he would take interested individuals up for a flight with 'Canada's Top Air Ace of WWII'. That business venture only lasted briefly however as Transport Canada shut him and his operation down due to an unauthorized aircraft and aviation procedure being illegally in service. In need of gainful employment George then decided to go back to war in 1948, three years after the Second-World-War had ended. He signed up as a mercenary pilot flying for the Israeli Air Force in the Israeli-Arabic conflict of that time. On his way to the war zone and while ferrying a fighter plane, along with another mercenary pilot, he had to land in Rome to refuel. After taking off from Rome and reaching a certain altitude, his plane exploded. Though the crash was never expertly investigated it is widely believe the Red Army (a rebel group in Italy that was allied to the Arab cause) planted an altimeter-bomb in Beuling's aircraft, killing both pilots. Italian authorities were considerate enough to give George Beuling a full hero's burial. His remains have since been exhumed and re-interred, not in Canada, but in Israel, in honour of Israel's respect of Beurling's full intensions to help out that country in it's war effort. As a Canadian, and with this video, I am expressing my sincere sorrow and distain over my country's actions regarding this rare and gifted individual. George Beurling was and will always be my (unsung) Canadian hero. In death, George has finally found a country he can truly call home (.. or has he?). Israel is a democratic country which acknowledges and respects Beurling's life accomplishments and full intentions - something Canada has failed to do. In life we take the good with the bad. War is a bad thing but something we often have to deal with and, unfortunately, be involved in. When we march off to war, we march off, not to die, but to win! Could George have been guilty of marching off to win?

(I say, "BRING HIS ASHES HOME WHERE THEY BELONG AND RESOLVE THIS CANADIAN DILEMMA, ONCE AND FOR ALL, OTHERWISE THIS COUNTRY WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE WITH A DARK SECRET; A PRIME MINISTER MACKENZIE KING SHAME, FOREVERMORE !!"

NOTE: Kennedy Collegiate High School is visible at the beginning of the video, located at the eastern outter-fringes of Jackson Park. Since the 'Castle' was built during the late 1920's it most-likely was a noticeable landmark to Beurling as he buzzed Jackson Park during the federal government's national war-bonds-drive (.. all during the time George was in Windsor).
